I form a limited number of partnerships and coaching relationships each year to help schools and other organizations develop modern leadership capacities.
Here’s as close as I’ve come to writing a current mission statement:
Modern leadership, well deployed, is the systematic breaking down and rebuilding of inherited defaults. The modern leader improves by first becoming aware of the choices available to him/her, and then making the best choice for the learners he/she is charged with leading. I help school leaders expand their modern leadership capacities by leading them in the discussion of cutting-edge leadership practices, participation in growth-oriented activities, and the exercising of their own learning muscles. Learning-while-leading is possible. In fact, there is no greater meta-skill for the leader who wishes to remain agile and thus relevant to the unpredictable nature of the educational enterprise.
